The Redbirds picked up a couple of runs in the first inning. Shocker starter Mitch Mormann walked the leadoff batter and hit the next Redbird to put two runners on with no outs. After a sacrifice bunt, Zac Johnson doubled both of them in for a 2-0 lead.

ISU tacked on another run in the second inning and another in the third to go in front 4-0.

The Shockers tied it at five with Tyler Baker's double in the seventh inning, but the Redbirds used three hits and an error in the ninth to score the winning run.
