Wichita, KS -- Wichita State defeated IPFW, 69-46, at Charles Koch Arena on Friday afternoon. The Shockers hosted its semi-annual Schoolhouse Rocks with the Shocks, which included over 8,000 students from local area elementary schools.
Alex Harden led the Shockers with 15 points; Michelle Price added 14 and Michaela Dapprich added 13 in the victory. Jamillah Bonner led the way with a career high seven rebounds for Wichita State and had a career high 10 points.
Price made the first three buckets of the game for Wichita State as the Shockers and the Mastodons traded baskets in the first nine minutes. A jumper by Alex Harden at the 10:21 mark sparked a 21-1 run to going into halftime.
The Shockers held IPFW to just 17 percent (3-for-17) from the field and 16 percent (1-for-6) from behind the arc, while forcing 14 turnovers in the first half.
Harden and Dapprich scored two early baskets for Wichita State in the second half before the Mastodons scored their first field goal since the 11:56 mark of the first half. Jamillah Bonner hit a three-pointer at the 18:31 mark and a jumper at the 17:17 mark to give the Shockers a 49-16 advantage.
IPFW went on a 7-0 over three minutes to cut the Wichita State lead, 60-30, before Bonner hit a jumper at the 5:05 mark to give the Shockers their first field goal since the 10:57 mark of the half.
Wichita State shot 38 percent (23-for-60) from the field and 46 percent (6-for-13) from three point range, holding IPFW to 28 percent (11-for-38) from the field and forced 18 turnovers in the 69-46 victory.
Shockers will play the winner of Oklahoma and Stetson on Nov. 10.
