The Shockers defeated ISU 5-2 to secure the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will find out who and where they will play during a selection show airing Monday at 11:00 am on ESPNU.
Micah Green gave the Shockers a 2-0 lead in the top of the 2nd on a double down the left field line to score Mike Mucha from first base. Illinois State answered with a run in the third inning but WSU tacked on another run on a Garrett Bayliff single in the fourth.
Leading 3-1, Johhny Coy flared a 2-run single into left field and gave WSU a 5-1 advantage. Elam left the game after giving up a run in the bottom of the 7th and was named the game's Most Valuable Player.
Wichita State returns to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009, ending the longest absence from that tournament in Gene Stephenson's tenure.
