K-State’s Kivett Named PGCBL Player Of The Year

August 17, 2012

Kivett won the PGCBL batting title at .401 (61-for-152), while he also led the nine-team league in hits, on-base percentage (.497) and stolen bases (37) despite missing the final week of the regular season due to a pre-planned trip to the London Olympics.

Aside from leading the league in four categories, Kivett also finished in the top five in slugging percentage (third; .566), runs scored (fourth; 41), total bases (fourth; 86), triples (fifth; 3) and hit-by-pitch (fifth; 9).

The Broadview Heights, Ohio, product reached base safely via a hit, walk or hit-by-pitch in all 40 games, while he recorded a hit in all but five games and led the league with 21 multi-hit contests. In 188 total plate appearances, Kivett struck out just nine times, and he ended his season riding an 18-game hitting streak.

During his sophomore season in 2012, Kivett was fifth on the team with a .286 batting average as the leadoff batter for the Wildcats. He led the team and ranked second in the Big 12 with 25 steals, while his five triples were also a team best and tied for fifth in the conference.
