Another strong second half in Salina propelled the Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team into the nationals semifinals on Wednesday night.
Leading by only two points at halftime, No. 2 Hutchinson outscored Walters State by 14 in the second and and defeated the Senators 62-46 in the NJCAA Women's Division I Basketball Tournament quarterfinals at the Bicentennial Center.
Hutchinson (35-0) advances to the national semifinals for the first time since 1977 and will play third-seeded Central Arizona at 6 p.m. on Friday.
Sophomore Jackie Patterson was 7 of 9 shooting and scored a game-high 18 points to lead HCC. Sophomore Chelsea Small knocked down three huge second-half 3-pointers and finished with 11 points. Laura Patrick had 10 points.
