Eight Shockers Named All-Valley

Peterson, a relief pitcher from Savage, Minn., went 3-1 with nine saves and a 1.24 ERA to become the second Shocker in school history to earn the Newcomer-of-the-Year award. Preston Springer earned the award in 2010.

Sophomore catcher and third baseman Tyler Baker earned first team honors as the utility player, while junior pitcher Brandon Peterson earned first team honors as a relief pitcher. Baker, from Topeka, Kan., is hitting .324 with 10 doubles, three triples, four home runs and 41 RBI.

Sophomore first baseman Casey Gillaspie, junior outfielder Garrett Bayliff and junior pitcher Cale Elam all earned second team honors. Gillaspie, from Omaha, Neb., is hitting .303 with 14 doubles, one triple, nine home runs and 36 RBI, while Bayliff, from Tuttle, Okla., is hitting .381 with nine doubles, one triple, 32 RBI and 11 stolen bases. Elam, from Oktaha, Okla., is 6-3 with a 2.40 ERA in 82.1 innings pitched.

Three players were named to the honorable mention team including shortstop Erik Harbutz and relief pitchers Albert Minnis and Aaron LaBrie. Harbutz, from Wichita, Kan., is hitting .275 with 13 doubles, one triple and 31 RBI. Minnis, from Lawrence, Kan., is 3-2 with a save and a 2.70 ERA, while LaBrie, from Sioux Falls, S.D., is 4-1 with three saves and a 0.91 ERA.

Gillaspie and Bayliff were also named to the Valley All-Defensive Team.
