Frank Martin heard the criticism, that he was little more than high school coach kept on to baby-sit Michael Beasley.

Well, look at Martin now.

Molding the program in his us-against-the-world image, Martin has No. 12 Kansas State off to one of its best starts ever and has the foundation set to keep it going for years to come.

Athletic and relentless on defense, the Wildcats are 11-1 and have won eight straight for their best start in five years. Kansas State has its highest ranking since 1973 and has beaten two ranked nonconference teams in the same season for the first time since 1958-59.

Turns out Martin isn't just a babysitter. He can coach a little, too.
