SALINA, KS - Jackie Patterson posted a double-double and the Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team dominated the second half as the second-seeded Lady Dragons defeated Meridian Community College 75-42 on Tuesday in the opening round of the NJCAA Women's Division I National Basketball Tournament at the Salina Bicentennial Center.
Hutchinson (34-0) advances to the quarterfinals at 8 p.m. on Tuesday to face 10th-seeded Walters State, Tenn. (28-2).
Patterson posted her eighth double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Dragons. Chelsea Small had 13 points, while Laura Patrick and Jasmine Patterson had 10 points each.
Hutchinson led 36-29 at halftime and started the second half on a 29-5 run, eventually outscoring Meridian (22-11) 39-13.
HCC shot 35.3 percent overall (30 of 85), including 4 of 15 from the 3-point line.
Hutchinson out-rebounded Meridian with a team single-game record 72 rebounds to Meridian's 40.
Norianna Haynes had 11 points to lead Meridian.
