Kansas State reaped the rewards of its first-ever Big 12 Championship season as a school-record seven players earned All-Big 12 First Team honors Tuesday and head coach Brad Hill was named Coach of the Year for the second time.
Eight Wichita State baseball student-athletes earned all-Missouri Valley Conference honors and junior pitcher Brandon Peterson took home Newcomer-of-the-Year honors. Two were named to the first team and three to the second team, while three earned honorable mention honors and two earned all-defensive team honors.
Wichita State is the 2012-13 Missouri Valley Conference all-sports champion. It marks the seventh crown in the past 10 years for Wichita State, which has a league best 19 all-time.
Kansas State outfielder Mitch Meyer and relief pitcher Jake Matthys were named the Big 12 Player and Newcomer of the Week, respectively, for their roles in helping the Wildcats capture their first regular-season conference title in 80 years, the conference office announced Monday.
