A Wichita middle school student could be expelled after being found with an air soft gun on a school bus.
Around 7:30 Friday morning, a parent saw a boy put a gun in his backpack before boarding a First Student school bus and called 911.
Wichita police officers stopped the Stucky Middle School-bound bus near K-96 and Hillside and discovered the student had an air soft gun.
"We detained the child for a brief period of time, determined that there was not anything illegal, per se, about having the gun. The child was taken and released to school," said Lt. Doug Nolte, Wichita Police.
Since it's not illegal to possess an air soft gun, police aren't taking any further action.
The Wichita Public Schools Superintendent said they are continuing their investigation but will not take the matter lightly.
"When it comes to weapons, of course, we're not going to tolerate weapons," said Superintendent John Allison.
The student will face a punishment ranging from suspension to expulsion.
The district said parents of Stucky Middle School were notified of the incident.
