Valley Center High School will become the first school from the state of Kansas to conduct an experiment aboard the International Space Station.

School administrators announced today they have exceeded their fundraising goal of $20,000 for the project.

The experimental design and testing phase will begin as soon as Monday, September 17, 2012, and culminate with an experiment being launched into space later this spring where astronauts will conduct the experiment aboard the space station.

The program launched in June 2010 and is the first pre-college Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education immersion program.

Participating communities will send a single microgravity experiment to the ISS in April, 2013.
