UCLA Mistakenly Tells Students They're Accepted

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

Nearly 900 high school seniors who thought they could tell family and friends they had earned admission to the University of California, Los Angeles, have been told it was a mistake.

The 894 would-be Bruins received an email about financial aid awards last weekend that included the phrase "congratulations on your admission to UCLA."

But the Los Angeles Times reports Wednesday that the students are only on a waiting list.

School spokesman Ricardo Vasquez says the problem occurred when financial aid notices were sent not just to accepted students, but
those on the waiting list as well.

Vasquez blames the problem on human error and says university officials are figuring out exactly what happened.

The school sent a message Monday to clarify the students' status and apologize.
