Local students learned lessons outside the classroom as they pedaled their way to class.
Safe Kids Kansas sponsored “Bike To School” on Wednesday. The coalition visited with students at Anderson Elementary about bike safety. Volunteers handed out bicycle helmets and reflectors to students in an effort to keep kids safe on the road.
Chris Wykel, Physical Education teacher said about 50 to 60 kids rode their bike to school.
“Not only is it good for their health, but it is also a lot of fun,” Wykel said. Students had been learning about how exercise and living a healthy lifestyle can improve their performance in the classroom.
Safety experts say wearing bicycle helmets can reduce the risk of severe brain injuries by 88-percent.
