School officials in Colorado Springs have shut down their lunch loan program for the last few weeks of school and lunches are being thrown away.
One mother complained her children were given cheese and a muffin because their lunch accounts ran out of money. School officials say parents were notified last week warning them the loan program was shutting down for the year.
A school official says food safety regulations require them to toss uneaten lunches in the trash.
