First-grade students at College Hill Elementary want to help the Wichita State University men’s basketball team in the NCAA tournament.

Students in Rachel Ely’s class wrote letters of advice that were delivered to the team before they left for Los Angeles to play LaSalle in the Sweet 16.

After students wrote their letters, they read them to their classmates.

“Don’t forget to pass the ball and don’t forget to dunk.”

“Shoot the ball at the square over the rim.”

“Don’t look down or someone might steal the ball.”

“Try hard to beat La Salle.”

“My dad yells if you do not make a basket and the other team does.”

“I believe in you because you are the best team.”

“Many of the letters reminded the players to tie their shoes,” said Ely. “That’s very important in first grade and we work on making sure our shoes are tied so students don’t trip or have their shoes fall off.”

And their biggest advice for the team: Play Angry!
