Wichita Heights swimmers made a splash testing out their high school's new swimming pool. On Friday, members of the school's swim team got to test the waters of their new pool for the first time.
The pool was built as part of the 2008 bond issue. It is much bigger and easier to use than the old pool. School officials say the new pool is 25 yards long and has six diving lanes and two brand new diving boards. Heights swim coach Dale Heckman says the pool gives students new opportunities to fall in love with swimming.
"It's really exciting. It's a great new space. This and all the other things that we've gotten - it makes things that much better when you come to high school sporting events in the city of Wichita for these swimmers and athletes and even the students in the P.E. classes," said Heckman.
This year, Heights will be able to host its annual 18-team invitational on the school campus for the first time. Heckman says in previous years, the Heights Invitational was held the event at either the Wichita Swim Club or Wichita State University because their old pool wasn't suitable.
