Students and teachers in the El Dorado school district will not be having class April 9, 2012, due to a snow day.
No, the district is not anticipating a winter blast from mother nature, but rather staying true to a promise.
In a letter sent home to USD 490 students and staff, Sue Givens, Superintendent, said each school achieved a standard of excellence as measured by performance on the Kansas State Assessments. The reading, writing and math assessments were taken last spring.
"The challenge is grounded in the importance of every school making gains in student achievement and every school demonstrating the depth of commitment required to meet the rigor of building-wide excellence," Givens said.
Givens said the goal is a first of its kind for the district. Every school also had at least one grade level standard of excellence award.
"My challenge for that accomplishment is to enter the gymnasium at our district-wide celebrations on a zip line," Givens said.
