Stranger danger has spread from the streets, to social media.

More online predators are targeting younger children who are novices to Facebook and Twitter. But their older peers want to teach elementary students to keep an eye on who may be monitoring their profiles.

Northwest High students shared the “Wonder Who’s Watching” campaign with Kensler Fourth and Fifth grade students Wednesday morning. The program raises awareness of accepting friend requests, to inappropriate Facebook posts.

“It’s such an upcoming thing in today’s society that if they don’t know how to be safe, they can really danger themselves,” said Broc Cramer, Northwest High Senior.

Jassiel Quintana, fifth grade student, said she has about 200 friends.

“I chat with them,” she said.

But the campaign urges kids not to take social media for granted.

“You never know who’s watching and you never know who’s listening,” Cramer said.
