An 8-year-old boy who was kicked out of class for wearing a costume of Dr. Martin Luther King is asking for an apology from school officials.

Sean King was pulled out of his second-grade class on Wednesday for painting his face black as part of a school project that required students to dress up as a historical figure. Sean King, who is white, says he was trying to honor the slain civil rights leader.

Sean King said school officials made his mother cry and he wants to know why other children who wore face paint honoring other historical people were not punished.

School officials are considering special classes to teach kids and parents about racial stereotypes.
