Many of these buses will have the "First Student" name on their sides and are headed for a route in the Wichita School District. Wichita's 14 year contract with Durham Student Services comes to an end July 1st. That's when First Student's contract begins.

First Student is the largest provider of bus services in the United States. In January, the Wichita School Board voted to drop Durham and pick up First Student. Collins Bus Corporation of Hutchinson, is the largest builder of these Type-A school buses in North America. Type-A are buses which typically carry anywhere from 9 to 32 students. Wichita schools use many of these types of buses, and the new contract has meant First Student put in a large order.

Almost half of all the small school buses in the United States come from the Collins facility. Collins procure the chassis for the vehicles from either General Motors or Ford and then build the bus on top of them.
