Authorities are searching for a man suspected of falsely reporting he had seen a gunman fleeing from a University of Kansas residence hall.
The report prompted police to conduct a floor-by-floor search Friday of the 10-story McCollum Hall.
The university said Saturday in a news release that it all started after the man and his girlfriend got into a fight. A neighbor went to housing staff after allegedly hearing the man yelling, "Where's my gun? Where's my gun?"
The woman involved in the fight is accused of falsely reporting that an armed man had attacked her in her room. The release said her boyfriend allegedly told police he intervened to protect the woman.
The couple also is accused of making up a description of a man whom they said was armed.
