Shawnee Mission Schools Lead State In Teacher Pay

Shawnee Mission schools in eastern Kansas lead the state in teacher pay, as they have for at least six years.

A new report from the Kansas State Department of Education said Shawnee Mission schools paid its teachers an average of $66,806 this year. That's $5,673 more than the No. 2 district, which is also in Johnson County. Blue Valley schools pay their teachers an average of $61,133.

The Grinnell schools in Gove County had the lowest average at $34,406 for its 13 full-time-equivalent teachers.

Statewide, teachers are earning an average of $53,041, or 0.62% more than last year.

But compensation decreased in 110 districts, was unchanged in two and increased in 180 districts. Increases were less than 1% in 45 districts.
