Pleasant Valley Middle School shares its school resource officer with Marshall Middle School.

But, eliminating the four SROS from all Wichita Middle Schools would save the district more than $232,000

"Unfortunately for the constraints on the budget, it's a necessary evil, " Michael Archibeque, Pleasant Valley Principal said.

After months of meetings and community input Wichita USD 259 is recommending cuts little by little. Last week, Superintendent John Allison presented his list to the public.

“It’s difficult and it's not going to get any easier," Allison said.

His cuts include reducing overtime by 50%, delaying the purchase of some student textbooks, asking support staff who usually work over the winter break to take vacation time or unpaid leave.

"It's a misnomer to say that these cuts don't have an impact on the classroom, “Allison said. “It's just less impact on the classroom teacher and that's what we are trying to maintain."
