A proposal to consolidate the Claflin and Lorraine school districts was approved by voters. But the consolidation of Hanston and Pawnee Heights districts was rejected.
A majority of voters in each district had to approve the consolidation in Tuesday's elections.
Pawnee Heights voters approved the consolidation 193-103, but Hanston voters defeated it 179-71. Hanston board member Roger Ewy says he believes Hanston residents were concerned about losing local control of the district.
Voters from Lorraine's and Claflin's districts overwhelming approved consolidating their districts, effective July 1.
The Claflin-Lorraine merger was prompted by declining enrollment and cuts in state aid.
