A couple from Illinois has donated $10 million to the University of Kansas, bringing their total contributions to the university to $44 million.

The university said Tuesday that the latest donation from Madison "Al" and Lila Self of Hinsdale, Ill., makes them the university's largest individual donors.

The latest donation will go to the Madison A. and Lila Self Engineering Leadership Fellows program.

Al and Lila Self were both born in Kansas. Al Self earned his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Kansas. The Selfs transformed the Bee Chemical Co. in Lansing, Ill., into an international producer of polymers.
