Groundbreaking takes place this week for expansion of the Lied Center performing arts building at the University of Kansas.
The public is invited to the ceremony set for 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little will be among the speakers.
The project includes expansion of the Lied Center's lobby and construction of an education pavilion. More office space will also be created.
The work is being funded partly with a $2.5 million gift from the Lied Foundation Trust and a $300,000 gift from the William T. Kemper Foundation.
Plans call for installation of displays about Ernst F. Lied and the foundation that bears his name. Lied owned a car dealership in Omaha, Neb., and invested in Las Vegas real estate.
