Summer fun officially came to an end for thousands of Wichita students. They went back to school with many to buildings dramatically different than when they left.

Empty halls are once again full, classrooms packed with fresh young faces, and teachers are set and ready to go. It's a day of finding classes, nervous jitters, new names, and looming assignments.

Wichita School Superintendent Winston Brooks made his rounds, visiting with teachers and students. He toured several schools, checking up on construction funded by the recent bond issue.

Teachers will do more than clean classrooms. They're also paying out of pocket. Wichita schools estimate teachers can easily pay out up to $500 a year for supplies needed to sharpen student's skills and expand their horizons.
