Sterling College in central Kansas has learned it will receive $1 million to pay the salary of theater professor.

The endowed chair will bear the names of Gordon Kling and Diane DeFranco-Kling, who have taught in the college's theater department for a combined 81 years.

The gift will come from the estate of Dr. Colin Bailey. Bailey and his wife, Joan Bailey, signed over ownership on a paid-up life insurance policy on Colin Bailey.

Both Baileys were born in England and were educated at Leeds University.

Colin Bailey was a gynecologist at the Hertzler Clinic in Halstead for 31 years, and the couple's three children graduated from Sterling. Joan Bailey also served on the college's Board of Trustees from 1992 to 2002.
