A teacher accused of making up a story about being assaulted at a Garden City school has resigned.

The Garden City board of education accepted Michael Blanks' resignation on Monday night.

Blanks, a former third-grade teacher at Alta Brown Elementary School, was cited and released in November for falsely reporting a crime.

Blanks was working late on Aug. 9 at Alta Brown when he told police two Hispanic men had forced their way into the school, beat him and stabbed him in the leg. Police believe Blanks hurt his leg when he fell off of a desk while stapling things to the wall.

Blanks has refused to comment since the incident.
