School Finance Compromise

May 3- House and Senate negotiators have agreed to a compromise package that would increase funding for elementary and secondary schools.

The $107 million package would increase sales and individual income taxes beginning July first, the start of the next fiscal year.

Negotiators spent nearly two hours working on the deal today after test votes over the weekend in the House and Senate chambers failed.

The compromise package would provide additional dollars for districts to spend on all their students, as well as boost spending on programs targeting students at risk of academic failure.
