Jim Roberts, an electrical engineering professor who held several administrative positions at the University of Kansas, has died.
The 65-year-old Roberts died Sunday from colorectal cancer.
During his career, Roberts was chairman of Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, associate vice chancellor and vice provost. He also had been the university's senior research officer.
During his tenure, externally funded research in the engineering department grew sevenfold and the ranking of the university's electrical engineering research rose from 61st to 21st.
Roberts was the university's senior research officer from 2003 to 2007, when he stepped down to return to teaching electrical engineering.
