Attorney General Steve Six is joining with local law enforcement officials to step up the message of being safe while on Kansas college campuses.

The effort coincides with the start of the new academic year and a continuing investigation into a string of sexual assaults in Lawrence and Manhattan. The meetings will take place Sept. 9.

Law enforcement officials have found similarities among 13 rapes in Manhattan and Lawrence between 2001 and 2008. Authorities have said the victims, time of attack and manner of attack are similar.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said it was in Manhattan as recently as last week investigating the cases.
