According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Wichita’s unemployment rate jumped to 8.3% in May from 7.1% in April. This makes Wichita the highest in the state, followed by Topeka with 6.5%, Lawrence with 5.5% and 4.4% in Manhattan.
To help residents get back on their feet, University of Phoenix – Wichita campus is hosting free monthly career workshops that will teach participants how to capture employers’ attention and secure the job they want. These community seminars will take place at the Wichita campus, located at 3020 North Cypress St., Suite 150, on the last Saturday of each month.
The University’s community seminars will launch this Saturday, August 22 from 9 a.m. to Noon. University of Phoenix faculty members, who are also experts in the fields they teach, will be providing personal instruction and tips on how to lead successful interviews, interview etiquette, dressing for success, business ethics and tailoring your resume to proactively sell yourself.
Other topics Wichita residents and University students and alumni will have the opportunity to learn more about include avoiding common pitfalls applicants make during the interview process, strengthening communication skills, showcasing work experience, evaluating job opportunities and talking points that will impress any employer.
