The Wichita Area Technical College is cutting ties from the Wichita school district, required by state law, which will affect faculty and students. This is a big change for the Wichita Area Technical College, as it forms its own board of directors and carves its own future.

The college is expected to decide how its seven-member board of directors will be selected, appointed and elected. Students don't seem interested in the process right now, but they'll be affected in the long run. The college will lose $3.5 million from vocational funding the school district passed along to it. Tuition could be raised, as a result.

The move will also affect the faculty, who are still concerned about their employee benefits.

The split will happen July 1, 2004.
