In a community where success stories have
become immeasurable since its June 11 tornado, the Chapman school
district has some good news.
The district shows a head count of 977 students in kindergarten
through high school, an increase of 21 students from a year ago.
The district has 54 kindergartners.
Before the tornado, damaged the town's schools, administrators
had built an enrollment count based on last year's figures.
Superintendent Tony Frieze said officials were unsure how the
tornado might hurt enrollment, particularly at the elementary
school level.
The district receives state aid based on a distribution formula
of about $4,433 per student. Chapman also receives low-enrollment
weighting as part of the state formula.
