More than a dozen kids from the Asbury United Methodist preschool and about twenty kids from the St. Thomas Aquinas second grade class became sick after their visit to Exploration Place on Wednesday.

Asbury youth pastor Terry Johnson says the day after their fieldtrip to Exploration Place, the school had to cancel classes because so many kids and teachers became sick. Johnson believes Exploration Place may have been the source of the illness.

Exploration Place spokesperson Janet Miller says the center follows very strict cleaning and disinfecting guidelines. She says they take every precaution to make sure all hands-on exhibits are safe. Miller says health officials have not pinpointed anything in the building that could have caused the illness.

There is not yet any evidence showing that something at Exploration Place made the children sick. A Sedgwick County Health Department spokesperson says they are working with Exploration Place to determine if there is any connection between the illness and the center.
