A donor has given Pittsburg State University $10 million for the construction of a new fine and performing arts center.

The donation is the largest ever for the southeast Kansas university. Officials announced the gift Monday, saying it will help complete a large portion of Pittsburg State's $120 million capital campaign.

A Pittsburg businessman and co-chairman of the campaign, Gene Bicknell, said the university already has raised more than $95 million of its goal, with $25 million for scholarships and international programs.

The new performance center will replace Carney Hall, which was demolished nearly 30 years ago because of structural concerns.
