Wichita State Receives Largest Gift Ever

October 14-- WICHITA, Kan. (AP) -- The estate of the man who co-founded Rent-A-Center is giving eight-point-five million dollars to
Wichita State University. It's the largest outright gift the
university has received.

Besides helping to start the nation's largest chain of
rent-to-own stores, Frank Barton also served as its chairman.

The donation was disclosed today as the W-S-U Foundation
announced a goal of raising 35 (m) million dollars over three
years.

The money will go to the university's business school.
Barton died in 2000.

Wichita State had named its business school for Barton after he
and his wife, Patsy, made a three million dollars cash gift in
1987. They couple also committed more money from their combined
estate.
