Last week, slick roads caused four school bus accidents. Two of the buses were carrying students.
Ronette Will's oldest daughter Keyannah was on one of those buses when the accident happened. When Keyannah arrived home from school she told her mother about an accident. Wills said she never heard from the school or the bus company about the accident.
Wichita School Transportation supervisor Lorna Rust says district policy requires schools to notify parents about any bus accident their child is involved in, either with a phone call or a letter. She says schools are not required to alert the district if they cannot reach parents.
Will's school principal says the school made several attempts to reach wills, and finally left a message on her answering machine. Will says she has no record of those calls.
To assure that your child's school can find you in case of an emergency, give them your most recent contact information, the district says families often forget to update numbers if they move or switch jobs.
