Lawmakers approved a compromise, 148 (M) million education funding plan late Wednesday night.
The move clears the way for the end of a special session to answer a Kansas Supreme Court mandate
for more money for public schools.
The bill would provide additional aid to all school districts,
as well as additional funds for special education and programs that
help students who are at risk of failing.
The package was drafted by House and Senate negotiators, who closed their deal on the 12th
working day of the special session.
The plan is a response to the Kansas Supreme Court's mandate that legislators provide an additional 143 million dollars to schools, though legislators had already missed the court's deadline by five days.
