May 11-- After three hours of arguments, a Kansas Supreme Court hearing ends with justices giving no indication when they would rule on a public-school finance plan.

The Legislature's plan came under attack, with skeptical
questions from the justices and criticism from an attorney for the
State Board of Education.

And Alan Rupe, another attorney challenging the plan, told the
justices the plan "doesn't even get us close" to resolving the
legal issues surrounding how Kansas funds its schools.

An attorney representing the state told the court that the plan
meets all the requirements of the court's January order. Justices
asked him whether legislators based their plan to increase annual
aid to schools by 142 million dollars on actual costs of
educating students.
