Wichita teacher Lorrie Foley says public education in Kansas is in a dire situation. It has left her making heartbreaking decisions as a teacher and a mother. "Do I buy this for my classroom and buy something for my kids at home. It's a sad choice to make and sometimes a hard choice to make", said Foley.
Like many other teachers, Foley uses her own money to buy supplies she needs after budgeted money runs out. That's unless a generous parent or friend steps up to help. At Foley's school, Gammon Elementary, there's the teacher's wish tree--wishes that will hopefully come true.
That's where Support Our Schools comes in. At kake.com, you'll find a comprehensive list of Kansas school districts and their contacts. Many districts have also provided a list of supplies they need, or areas where they could use additional funding. KAKE-TV will have weekly updates on the Support Our Schools program.
