Church Passes Out Controversial Pamphlets

Friday, April 22, 2005

Pastor Mark Holick and his church have been passing out invitations and pamphlets all week.

“We started at West High and then at Southeast and going to different high schools each day, we have a difference emphasis on some flyer or tract that we pass out concerning the word of God,” says Holick.

Some of these tracts are just text, expressing anti-homosexual, anti-abortion and anti-Islamic views. Some include graphic images.

“It is graphic, that is correct,” says Holick. “The pictures tell you more than any words can tell you. I know that a lot of people get upset about those pictures.”

“It’s kind of gross,” says one student.

Holick says Southeast High was the target, but some Curtis Middle School students say they were targeted too.

The school can’t do anything to keep Holick and his group away from the students. The outreach workers stayed on public sidewalks. But, the students we talked to say they wish more could be done.

“I don’t think they should do this,” says Ashley Gibbs, a student at Curtis Middle School. “It’s still a church and all it is, is to get us to go to church and it’s wrong.”

The church says they’re just trying to protect Christian youth.
