Feb. 15-- A House committee is working on a one-year
proposal that would increase state aid to school districts by 65
Republican Kathe Decker chairs the House Select Committee on
School Finance. Decker says the plan would raise the base level of
state aid per student by 244 dollars, to a total of slightly more
than 41-hundred dollars.
The House plan would be financed with 45 million dollars
from thet state's existing revenue, and 20 million from the
state's share of the national tobacco settlement.
Legislators are under an April 12th deadline set by the Kansas
Supreme Court to increase funding for public schools.
