It happened at Lawrence Elementary. Two kids, a 6-year-old female and a 12-year-old male brother and sister were trying to cross a crosswalk at the intersection of Maple and Sheridan. Police say either a white mini van or a blue sedan turned out from Sheridan onto Maple and struck both kids in the crosswalk.
A witness tells us she saw the white mini van hit the kid and then leave the scene.
“That white van…was going 40-miles-per hour…and just hit that little boy,” says Tonya Holt, who witnessed the accident. “He just flew across the street. It was terrible.”
Both kids were taken to Via Christi-St. Francis with minor injuries, including multiple head lacerations.
USD 259 says one of the children was a student at Lawrence Elementary; the other was a student at Wells Special Education Center.
