The City of Wichita will soon be asking for request for proposals for the possibility of privatizing city golf courses.
The decision came after a special golf committee studied the issue. Last year at this time, local golf courses were not bringing in a profit and there was some talk of closing courses.
During a council workshop Tuesday, Parks and Recreation Board President Bryan Frye told the council the city might as well explore privatization options either through a citizen or company that may want to take over the public courses.
Frye said this year has been a good one for the golf courses, with the number of golfers up significantly from last year.
