Park City is shelling out thousands of dollars to replace and repair items stolen and damaged at Hap McLean Park.

"With all the time the city put in fixing and boarding up windows, we're over $7,000," said Detective Dwight Wilkes, Park City Police.

Damage and losses totaling that pricey figure, include broken windows at the baseball fields, and destruction to nearly everything inside the concession stand and BMX track buildings.

"They kicked that door in, and decided that wasn't enough, so they kicked the walls out, and then, there was a backhoe that was off of the BMX track, and anything that was breakable, they broke it off, like the glass, the turn signals, everything," said Detective Wilkes.

This isn't the first vandalism Park City parks have seen in recent months. In December, a Christmas light display at Prairie Wind Park received about $20,000 in damage.

"The Christmas decoration was a real frustration, because it's something we put up for the community, like a lot of things we do. It was real upsetting to us that people would do something so mindless," said Mayor Emil Bergquist.

Last week, the city council approved spending nearly $7,800 to fix McLean park.

They are also offering a $2,000 reward for information on the Christmas light display vandalisms.

To better protect the city's assets in the future, the council is now discussing the possibility of adding surveillance cameras to park properties.

"We'll do whatever is necessary within reason to find perpetrators and help prevent trouble," said mayor Bergquist.

If you have any information on either case, call Park City Police at 744-2012 or Crimestoppers at 267-2111.
