Trial Set For Parents Of Boy Missing Since 1999

Monday, June 13, 2011

With the trial of the adoptive parents of a Kansas boy who disappeared in 1999 scheduled later this month, Butler County's sheriff is vowing to find out what happened to the boy.

Eleven-year-old Adam Herrman disappeared in 1999, when he lived with Valerie and Doug Herrman in Towanda. His disappearance wasn't
reported until late 2008.

The Hermanns are scheduled to go on trial June 21. They are each charged with felony theft after allegedly collecting an adoption subsidy for Adam in the years after he disappeared.

Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet said he's determined to find the boy's remains and get someone convicted for whatever happened to him.

Prosecutors say the trial will focus on the fraud, not what happened to Adam.
