Hutchinson Teen Killed In Salina Accident

The Saline County Sheriff's department is investigating a deadly accident that killed a 15-year-old girl early Wednesday morning.

The rollover crash occurred on State Street near Burma Road, just west of Salina, around 3:45 a.m.

Police said four teenagers were in the car at the time of the accident. 15-year-old Journi Maas of Hutchinson was thrown from the car and died on the scene. She was in the front seat at the time of the accident.

The driver, 16-year-old Tara Pfiefer, as well as two other passengers, Mariah Putman, 18, from Salina, and Kylie Callahan, 16,from Catoosa Oklahoma, were taken to Salina Regional Heath Center.

Pfiefer was treated and released from the hospital. Putman and Callahan were both listed in stable condition.

Authorizes are still investigating what caused the accident. They do know the car was going west on State Street when it left the road and hit a box culvert. Investigators say the four were possibly not wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
