A new emergency station in southeast Sedgwick county could help crews reach patients faster.
County commissioners approved the purchase of a $90,000 piece of land near Lincoln and Webb for a new EMS station.
Paramedics said they have missed required response times in that part of the county because their current facility at 143rd and 13th street, is too far away.
“If we can get there quicker and initiate treatment and get them the definitive care, it betters their chances not only for survival but morbidity and mortality as well,” said Scott Hadley, EMS director.
The new station is expected to be open by the end of the year.
